  1. In March 2000, Dieter Fensel initiated and oganized a closed seminar entitled "Semantic for the WWW" at Dagstuhl.
  2. The First International Workshop on the "Semantic Web: Models, Architectures and Management (SemWeb'2000)" has taken place in Lisbon, Portugal on September 22, 2000 in conjunction with ECDL2000 (European Conference on Digital Libraries).
    The main themes addressed by the SemWeb'2000 comprised "Formal Foundations of Web Metadata Standards", "Semantic Interoperability Frameworks", and "Intelligent Information/Service Brokering Architectures". The workshop drew a high quality of submissions and a large audience of about 50. Out of 28 papers submitted, only 9 could be accepted for presentation.
    The program also included a keynote presentation by Dr. Amit Sheth (University of Georgia, Talee Corp.), as well as an invited talk by Hans Georg Stork (European Commission) on the Commission's IST Programme vision and priorities on the Semantic Web.
  3. SemWeb'2001 has taken place in Hong Kong, China, on May 1, 2001. Cf. right here.
  4. Among other events this year or the last are the Semantic Web Working Symposium and the International Semantic Web Conference. This WWW Semantic Web workshop differs in that it is primarily a forum for community discussion and collaboration; the submission of papers primarily serves for gathering ideas and topics for discussion.
